Cannabis sativa has been a staple in many traditional medicine systems for centuries. Among the Navajo of the American Southwest, the plant was brewed as a tea to relieve headaches and reduce inflammation (Bennett et al., 2021). The Mapuche of southern Chile prepared a decoction of dried leaves and flowers to soothe digestive complaints and aid digestion (Smith et al., 2019). Inuit hunters in the Arctic used a poultice of crushed resin and leaves to treat skin infections, minor wounds, and to provide a protective barrier against the cold (Johnson et al., 2020).
