Olive leaves have long been brewed as a gentle tea in Mediterranean households. In Greece, the villagers of Crete use fresh or dried leaves to make a mild infusion that is taken after meals to aid digestion, a practice documented in the ethnobotanical survey of the Aegean Islands (Papadopoulos et al., 2018). In southern Italy, the Sicilian tradition records that the same leaves are steeped in hot water and drunk to relieve sore throats; the recipe appears in the regional herbal compendium of Calabria (Ciccone, 2019).
