Rhododendron mucronulatum, also known as the Korean rhododendron or Korean rosebay, is a deciduous shrub native to Korea, Mongolia, Russia, and parts of northern China. It grows up to 1-2 meters in height and has elliptic or elliptic-lanceolate leaves. The plant produces reddish-purple flowers in late winter or early spring, often before the foliage appears. It is typically found in forested areas at high altitudes. The specific epithet, mucronulatum, refers to the sharply pointed shape of the leaves. One popular cultivar, 'Cornell Pink', has light pink flowers and has received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. This plant is hardy in cold temperatures but requires a sheltered location with dappled shade and acidic soil enriched with leaf mould. In Korean cuisine, the flowers are used in traditional spring festival dishes and infused liquor.
