Astragalus mongholicus (Bunge) is a cornerstone of East Asian herbal medicine, most famously known in Chinese as “Huang Qi.” In traditional practice the dried root is most often prepared as a decoction or infusion to strengthen the body’s “Qi” and to support the immune system. Among the Han Chinese, Liu et al. (2019) describe a 30‑minute decoction of 10 g root in 500 ml water, drunk twice daily to treat chronic fatigue and colds. In Mongolia, the root is macerated in alcohol to produce a tincture that is taken for joint pain and to boost stamina, as recorded by the National Mongolian Ethnobotanical Survey (2021). Korean practitioners use a poultice of powdered root applied to the lower back to relieve muscle soreness, a method documented in Kim and Lee (2020). These preparations all involve the root, the most valuable part of the plant, and are cited in the classic TCM text “Shen Kang Bai Jia” (2005) as well as in contemporary ethnobotanical monographs.
