The primary commercial product is timber, derived from the heartwood and sapwood, used in construction, furniture, and boat building. The wood is processed into lumber and veneers for structural and finishing applications.

Industrial and craft applications:
In construction, it serves as beams, framing, and cladding for buildings. In boat building, its decay resistance and lightweight nature are valued for hulls and decking. It is also used for interior paneling, traditional furniture, carving, and craft items.

Wood and fiber:
The wood is straight-grained, lightweight (specific gravity ~0.45), and durable, with high natural decay resistance. Properties include resistance to fungal and insect attack, dimensional stability, and a pleasant, persistent fragrance.

Properties relevant to use:
Decay resistance is attributed to extractives such as thujic acid and other terpenoids. The wood's low density and fine grain facilitate machining, carving, and finishing. Fragrance and durability make it suitable for long-term applications.

Chamaecyparis formosensis is endemic to Taiwan and listed as Vulnerable (IUCN Red List). Unsustainable logging historically depleted populations. Current conservation includes protected areas and regulated harvesting. Sustainable practices focus on selective logging and replanting efforts.
