Fragrance and cosmetics:
Flower buds and leaves yield essential oil via steam distillation. Analyses report high proportions of monoterpenes (eucalyptol, α-pinene, β-pinene, sabinene) and smaller quantities of monoterpenols and sesquiterpenes. The composition is consistent with applications in perfumery and fragrance blends for soaps and detergents; use is limited by oil yield and cost. Non-sensitizing fractions (e.g., eucalyptol) are also exploited in cosmetic formulations.

Properties relevant to use:
Essential oil from buds and leaves is characterized by high monoterpene content with predominance of eucalyptol and α/β-pinene. Seed oil contains oleic and linoleic acids as major fatty acids with minor palmitic and stearic acids; iodine value indicates high unsaturation and potential for drying applications.

Food and beverages (non-medicinal):
Seeds yield an edible oil suitable for culinary use, including frying; standardized nutritional quality and oxidative stability have been documented.

Industrial and craft applications:
Seed oil can serve as a drying oil in paint and ink systems and is suitable as a non-drying base in craft applications due to its unsaturation profile. Minor products include pollen for controlled pollination in ornamental breeding.

Standards and regulation:
Essential oil must comply with IFRA standards for fragrance safety; cosmetic ingredients should meet purity and contaminant limits of national cosmetics regulations. Seed oil used as food must meet national food standards for edible oils.

Sustainability and sourcing:
Most commercial production is supported by cultivated ornamental stocks in China and East Asia; local sourcing reduces logistics impacts but constraints on bud harvest may exist where ongoing ornamental production is prioritized.
