Morinda citrifolia, commonly known as noni, has a long history of use as an infusion and decoction in many tropical cultures. Among the Māori of New Zealand, the dried fruit peel is boiled with water to produce a bitter tea that is taken for stomach upset and as a general tonic (Bennett et al., 2021). In the Caribbean, particularly in Jamaica, the bark and leaves are macerated in alcohol to create a tincture that is applied topically for skin infections and used internally for fever and digestive complaints (Miller, 2018). West African communities in Sierra Leone use a decoction of the root and bark to treat malaria and as a febrifuge, a practice documented in the ethnobotanical survey of the Mende people (Kumar et al., 2019).
