Tanacetum parthenium, also known as feverfew, is a flowering plant in the daisy family that is often grown as an ornamental plant. It is a herbaceous perennial with pungently-scented leaves and daisy-like flowers. Native to Eurasia, it has spread around the world and is now found in Europe, North America, and Chile. In traditional medicine, feverfew has been used to treat headaches, but there is no scientific evidence to support this claim. It contains a compound called parthenolide, which is being studied for its potential anti-cancer properties. Feverfew is also used as a dietary supplement, but the amount of parthenolide in these supplements can vary greatly. Long-term use of feverfew may cause withdrawal symptoms and allergic reactions, and it should not be taken by pregnant women. The word "feverfew" comes from the Latin word for "fever reducer," although it is no longer used for this purpose. It has a long history of medicinal use, dating back to the first century, and is still used in traditional herbal medicine.
