The dense, strong wood is used in joinery, for turned objects such as tool handles, and in more robust applications such as railway sleepers, marine piles, and heavy-duty construction elements. Colorants and tanning:
The bark of A. elaeagnoidea contains hydrolyzable tannins that are extracted for use in leather tanning. The tannin extract is employed as a natural brown dye for protein fibers and as a tanning agent in the leather industry.
