Panzeria lanata is a fragrant, white‑woolly mint whose sticky gum resin (commonly called “dikamali”) is the part most widely used. In Indian Ayurvedic practice the resin has long been taken as a warm decoction for coughs, colds, and as a carminative for colic and indigestion; these uses appear in the Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India, and they are discussed by Priya’s Rasayana (2006). In 19th‑century Persian medicine, according to Hooper’s Materia Medica (1937), the resin was dissolved in water and drunk to relieve gastric pain and dyspepsia. Central Asian nomadic healers, as reported by Bower (1970), mixed a pinch of the resin into tea or hot water for bronchial complaints and applied it as a poultice for wounds and abscesses.

To illustrate how the resin is prepared, a simple warm decoction can be made. Stir 0.5–1.0 g of resin with 100–200 mL of water and heat gently until the gum dissolves, cool to a comfortable drinking temperature, and take a small cup as needed. Those with latex or lamiaceae allergies should avoid it; do not use in pregnancy or while breastfeeding without professional guidance, and limit use to short courses for acute symptoms.

Modern phytochemistry links the resin’s aroma to the essential‑oil constituents typically found in Labiatae: the resin contains tannins and pentacyclic triterpenoids, and the aerial parts yield flavonoids and essential oil containing α‑pinene, linalool, and other monoterpenes; these compounds are well established in the species by modern analyses (e.g., Harbone, Phytochemical Methods, 1998; Batirov, Chemistry of Natural Compounds, 1999).

These traditional preparations remain available in regional herbal markets and are still used locally for cough and digestive complaints, while contemporary studies continue to characterize the resin’s diterpenoids and terpenoid profiles as a basis for modern extracts and standardization.
