Among the people of the Andean highlands, the leaves of cucumber (Cucumis sativus) are ground into a poultice and applied to skin irritations, a practice documented by the Quechua healers in the 1970s (González‑Pérez, 1978). In the coastal regions of Morocco, the fresh fruit is steeped in hot water to make a cooling tea that is drunk after meals to aid digestion; this use is recorded in the ethnobotanical survey of the Berber communities (Bennett et al., 2015).
