Solidago canadensis, also known as Canada goldenrod or Canadian goldenrod, is a perennial plant native to northeastern and north-central North America. It is characterized by its tall stems, small yellow flowers, and lanceolate leaves. While it is grown as an ornamental in flower gardens, it is considered an invasive species in other parts of the continent and in several areas worldwide, including Europe and Asia. It has a rhizomatous growth habit and can form large colonies, making it difficult to control. Canada goldenrod is visited by a variety of insects for its pollen and nectar, but it can also be aggressive and form monocultures in its native range. It is also a host to several insect-induced galls. Invasive populations of Canada goldenrod have caused concern in China, where it has been reported to cause the extinction of native plants and reduce orange harvests. Efforts to eradicate it are ongoing.
