Arctium lappa, commonly known as burdock, has a long history of use as a medicinal tea and decoction in several cultures. Among the Chinese, the root is boiled into a decoction to treat liver disorders, skin eruptions, and to promote urination; this practice is documented in the 2019 review by Li et al. In Japan, the dried root is steeped in hot water to produce a mild tea that is traditionally used to relieve constipation and to soothe sore throats, as reported by Kawai et al. (2015).
