Rosa laevigata, also known as the Cherokee rose, is a fragrant white rose native to southern China and Taiwan. It is an evergreen climbing shrub that can reach heights of up to 5-10 meters. The leaves are glossy green and the flowers are large and fragrant with white petals and yellow stamens. It was introduced to the southeastern United States in the late 1700s and has become invasive in this region. The flower is associated with the Trail of Tears, a tragic event in which Native Americans were forcibly relocated, and is the state flower of Georgia. It is also referenced in popular culture, such as in the TV show The Walking Dead.
