Hibiscus taiwanensis, also known as the Taiwan cotton rose, is a species of plant in the Malvaceae family that is native to Taiwan and can also be found in China. It differs from the Chinese Hibiscus mutabilis in its unique double flower form and ability to attract butterflies. This plant can grow up to 3-5 meters and has broad ovate to circular leaves with long petioles. Its bloom season is from August to October and it produces fruits in November to December. The flowers start off white in the morning, but turn light pink by noon and deepen in color throughout the day. Hibiscus taiwanensis thrives in sunlight and is resistant to drought, pollution, and poor soil conditions. Its wood can also be used to make clogs.
