The gum resin of Hedysarum gummifer, marketed as tragacanth, is a natural hydrocolloid harvested by tapping wild shrubs. The exudate occurs as ribbon-shaped flakes (tragacanth) and as a more brittle, leaf-like form sometimes termed “blister” gum.
