Apocynum venetum is a plant species in the dogbane family that is native to a wide range in northern Asia and SE Europe. It is used as a source of fiber, medicine, and nectar for production of honey. The fibers possess the luster of silk, smoothness of ramie, malleability of cashmere, and the softness of cotton. The leaves have been used in the traditional medicine for hypertension treatment. There are eight subspecies of Apocynum venetum, including Apocynum venetum subsp. armenum, Apocynum venetum subsp. basikurumon, Apocynum venetum subsp. lancifolium, Apocynum venetum subsp. russanovii, Apocynum venetum subsp. sarmatiense, Apocynum venetum subsp. scabrum, Apocynum venetum subsp. tauricum, and Apocynum venetum subsp. venetum.
