Prunella vulgaris, commonly called self‑heal, has a long history of use as an infusion and poultice in several traditional medicine systems. In Chinese folk medicine, the dried aerial parts are steeped in hot water to treat fever, sore throat, and skin inflammation; Li et al., 2015 report that the leaves and stems are boiled for 15 minutes to make a mild decoction. In German and British herbal practice, the whole plant is macerated in alcohol or used as a poultice for cuts, bruises, and rheumatic pain; Bennett et al., 2021 describe a 1:5 tincture of the dried herb for topical application. Korean traditional medicine also employs a tea made from the fresh leaves to relieve cough and cough‑induced sore throat; Kim et al., 2018 note that the infusion is prepared by simmering 10 g of fresh leaves in 200 ml of water for 10 minutes.
