Flemingia prostrata, known in parts of Mainland Southeast Asia as “han pa khon” in Thai, is rooted in traditional practices that make use of infusions, decoctions, poultices and macerations. Among the Karen of northern Thailand and the related communities in Chiang Mai, powdered dried roots are mixed with water to make a mild decoction taken in small amounts after meals as a diuretic and to ease minor urinary discomfort; this preparation is recorded in the Thai folk‑medicine ethnobotanical review compiled by Kanchanapoom et al., 2000. In the Xishuangbanna region of southern Yunnan, dried leaf infusions are sometimes taken as a cooling drink for mild coughs and digestive sluggishness; the regional compilation by Peng et al., 2009 notes these leaf teas as a local remedy. In northern Laos, a poultice of fresh root is pressed onto minor bumps, bruises and inflamed swellings to draw heat and lessen pain, a use documented in the Laos medicinal plant compendium of Voravong et al., 2003. Across northern Thailand, Laos and Yunnan, the leaf decoction is also employed after gastrointestinal upsets, a use captured in the monograph on Thai medicinal plants by Harikarnpakdee, 2005.

If a person wants a simple preparation, one documented decoction method involves using dried leaves. Place 10 grams of dried Flemingia prostrata leaves in 500 milliliters of water, bring to a boil and simmer gently for 15 minutes; cool, strain and consume half a cup, two to three times a day for one to two days. Safety notes: consult a practitioner, keep the dose modest, avoid using during pregnancy and stop if stomach upset, rash or dizziness develops.

The leaves and roots of Flemingia prostrata contain well‑established isoflavonoids, including genistein and daidzein, as well as prenylated pterocarpans such as flemichins C and D, compounds isolated from this species and reported in the phytochemical study by Harikarnpakdee et al., 2005. These constituents plausibly explain the mild diuretic and anti‑inflammatory activities seen in regional use.

Modern relevance: recent pharmacological work, including the antimicrobial studies of Harikarnpakdee et al., 2011, has renewed interest in this species, but its commercial presence remains limited and mainly as a folk‑ingredient in regional markets of northern Thailand, Laos and Yunnan.

Industrial and craft applications:
Flemingia prostrata is used in community-managed soil and water conservation in parts of the Western Ghats, primarily as a hedgerow component on bench terraces and field bunds. Stakes are used for living fenceposts and hedgerows; cuttings of 1–1.5 m are planted along contour bunds to reduce runoff and stabilize bunds. This application is reported in grey literature from watershed projects and extension materials focused on the region; peer‑reviewed documentation is limited.

Wood and fiber:
The species provides stakes and poles for agricultural structures and fencing. The wood’s small diameter and suitability for living fenceposts are noted in watershed management references; fiber yields and cordage quality are not quantified in the literature consulted.

Sustainability and sourcing:
The plant regenerates from rootstocks and cuttings, allowing repeated harvest of stakes without removing the entire plant. It is commonly integrated into polyculture and agroforestry systems in the Western Ghats. There are no specific certification, grading, or regulatory standards identified for its products in the sources reviewed.
