Taxus wallichiana, the Himalayan yew, has a long history of use in the high‑altitude communities of the eastern Himalayas. Among the Sherpa of the Khumbu region, the bark is boiled into a decoction to relieve fever and rheumatic pain; Shrestha et al. (2015) recorded that the infusion is taken twice daily for up to three days. In Sikkim, the Lepcha people apply a poultice of crushed leaves to skin lesions and insect bites, noting a cooling effect that eases itching; Bhandari (2018) documents this practice in a field survey of 120 households. Tibetan Buddhist healers in the Lhasa area prepare a tincture of bark in 70 % ethanol, using it as a topical analgesic for joint aches; Wang et al. (2019) describe the preparation and report that the tincture is applied twice a week for several weeks. These accounts collectively show that the bark and leaves of T. wallichiana are employed in infusions, decoctions, tinctures, and poultices across at least three distinct cultural groups.

A simple, low‑risk tea can be made from the bark for personal use, but only after careful preparation. Dry the bark in a shaded area until it is brittle, then break it into small pieces.
