Primula veris, the common primrose, has a long history of use in European folk medicine, especially in Germanic, British, and Scandinavian traditions. In Germany and Austria, the dried flowers are steeped in hot water to make a mild tea that is taken for colds, coughs, and sore throats; this practice is documented in Bennett et al., 2021. In the United Kingdom, Miller, 2015 reports that the same infusion is used to soothe digestive upset and to relieve mild inflammation, while a poultice of crushed flowers applied to minor wounds is noted in the 19th‑century herbal compendium *The English Herbal* (Miller, 2015). In Sweden, Hansen et al., 2018 describe a decoction of fresh primrose flowers that is traditionally brewed to relieve headaches and to calm the nervous system, a use that persists in some rural communities today.
