It is an attractive ornamental plant and is used in traditional medicine.

Physalis longifolia is a species of flowering plant in the nightshade family, native to North America. It has yellow bell-shaped flowers and yellow-green edible fruit that tastes like an effervescent, under-ripened strawberry. It has two varieties and is used for food, as an ornamental plant, and in traditional medicine. Native American groups used it for food, and the Zuni people used it in a sauce recipe. It is easy to grow and produces a flavorful fruit.
