Annona glabra, also known as pond apple, alligator apple, and monkey apple, is a tropical fruit tree in the Annonaceae family. It is native to Florida, the Caribbean, Central and South America, and West Africa, and is commonly found in the Everglades. The tree is considered an invasive species in Sri Lanka and Australia, where it grows in wet environments and can spread to coastlines through its floating seeds and fruit. The fruit is edible and has a sweet, melon-like taste, but it has not gained widespread popularity. Recent research has shown that the tree's seeds contain compounds with potential medicinal properties. Due to its invasive nature, the Australian government has classified A. glabra as a Weed of National Significance and has implemented control strategies to eliminate it. However, care must be taken to avoid affecting native Australian apple species in the same family.
