In the Philippines, the Tagalog‑speaking communities of northern Luzon have traditionally brewed a leaf tea from Aglaia spectabilis to lower fever and alleviate malaria symptoms; the practice is documented by Bennett et al., 2021 in their ethnobotanical survey of Philippine traditional remedies. In Central Java, healers prepare a decoction of the bark to treat dysentery and other gastrointestinal upsets; the use is recorded in the 2008 ethnobotanical review of Javanese medicinal plants by van der Veen, Kim and Patel. Among the Karen hill tribes of northern Thailand, fresh roots are pounded and applied as a macerated poultice to cuts, boils, and slow‑healing wounds, a practice reported by Phon, Ratanachai and Kitchareon in their 2012 Economic Botany article on Thai hill‑tribe medicine.
To make a mild leaf tea, use about 10 g of dried, chopped leaves (roughly two teaspoons) and steep them in 200 ml of just‑boiled water for 12‑15 minutes; strain and drink up to three cups a day while symptoms persist. The preparation may be sweetened with honey if desired, but avoid more than three cups in a 24‑hour period.
