Trifolium repens, also known as white clover, is a perennial plant in the bean family that is native to Europe and central Asia. It is widely cultivated as a forage crop and has been introduced to many parts of the world, including North America, Australia, and New Zealand. The plant has three leaflets, giving it the popular name "trefoil," and can have white or pinkish flowers. It is often used in mixtures with forage grasses and is known for its ability to fix nitrogen in the soil. White clover is also used as a companion plant in lawns and gardens, and its leaves and flowers can be eaten as a source of protein. In some cultures, it is used as a medicinal herb for its anti-tapeworm properties. The scientific name, Trifolium repens, comes from the Latin words for "three" and "leaf," and "creeping" or "stoloniferous," referring to its growth habit.

Germination/Propagation Top

Suggest a correction or add new data!
Sow seeds at 20°C, expecting germination within 3 months without further temperature treatment.
Requires Darkness: These seeds need to be covered with soil or otherwise kept in the dark to germinate properly. Light inhibits their germination process.
Requires Scarification: Scarification involves physically breaking, scratching, or softening the seed coat to allow water absorption and germination to occur. This can be done by nicking the seed coat with a knife or rubbing the seeds between sheets of sandpaper.
