Senna tora, also known as sickle senna or sickle wild sensitive-plant, is a plant species in the Fabaceae family. It is native to Central America but can be found growing wild in most tropical regions. It is considered a weed in many places and is often confused with Chinese senna. The plant has a distinct smell when young and produces pale yellow flowers with unequal stamens. Its pods are flattened and sickle-shaped, giving it its common name. Senna tora is a stress-tolerant annual weed that is easily grown and can remain viable for up to twenty years. It has many traditional medicinal uses and its seeds and leaves are edible. The plant is also used as a natural pesticide and in various industrial applications. Senna tora is cultivated in many countries, with India being the largest producer. Its taxonomic history is confusing, with many synonyms being used for this species. It is found in many parts of the world, including Afghanistan, India, Nigeria, China, and Nepal. However, it is considered invasive in New-Caledonia.
