Industrial and craft applications:
The timber is processed into interior panels, cabinetry, and light structural components. Bark tannin extracts are used in the leather industry to produce brown leather, while the bark also yields a natural brown dye suitable for textile crafts. The wood can be pulped to produce short‑fiber pulp for paper and cardboard.

Food and beverages (non‑medicinal):
Leaves and young shoots are harvested fresh or dried for livestock feed, providing a high‑protein supplement for cattle and goats; the foliage can be stored as hay for dry‑season feeding.

Colorants and tanning:
The bark yields a brown, condensed‑tannin extract employed in vegetable tanning of hides and skins, giving leather good colour fastness. The same extract can be used as a natural brown dye for textiles.

Wood and fiber:
Erythrina sigmoidea produces low‑density, straight‑grained wood suitable for interior construction and furniture. The wood yields a moderate cellulose‑rich pulp, used for lightweight paper and corrugated board. Bast fibers from the bark can be extracted for basic cordage.

Properties relevant to use:
Bark tannins belong to the condensed class, providing high stability in acidic tanning baths. The wood’s low density and relatively low lignin content facilitate mechanical pulping, while leaf tissue shows elevated protein content, supporting its feed value.

Standards and regulation:
Timber harvested for structural use must comply with national timber grading rules (e.g., Ghana Timber Grading Regulations, ISO 13061‑1 for wood strength). Tannin extracts for leather are subject to national regulations on plant‑derived tanning agents and must meet limits for heavy‑metal content in the final leather product.

Sustainability and sourcing:
The species is widely cultivated in agroforestry systems as a shade tree for cocoa and coffee, allowing periodic coppicing without full removal. Community‑managed woodlots and controlled harvest cycles help maintain populations and reduce pressure on natural forests.
