Eclipta prostrata, also known as false daisy, is a plant in the Asteraceae family that is found in many parts of the world. It has cylindrical grayish roots and purplish stems with white hairs, and its leaves are arranged in pairs and have a serrated edge. The plant produces small white flowers and its seeds are compressed and winged. It is commonly found in moist areas in warm temperate and tropical regions, including India, Nepal, China, Thailand, Bangladesh, and Brazil. In traditional medicine, it is used in Ayurveda and is known as bhangra or bhringaraj in India. In Southeast Asia, the dried plant is used in traditional medicine and is also consumed as a vegetable. Eclipta prostrata contains various phytochemicals, including coumestans, polypeptides, and flavonoids. Its leaves are also used as a black hair dye and in tattooing.
