Aralidium pinnatifidum, a small tree native to Southeast Asia, has limited documented ethnobotanical uses outside Java. Traditional preparations primarily involve the young leaves, used in Java, Indonesia, as a mild tea or chew to alleviate stomachache and indigestion (Heyne, 1950). Among traditional healers in Borneo, the leaves are also utilized in decoctions for treating dysentery, and macerated in warm water as a digestive tonic (Wong & Chua, 1997). Isolated accounts from the Malay Peninsula suggest the bark was powdered and applied topically in poultices for wounds (Burkill, 1935). *Heyne’s 1950 treatise on the useful plants of the Dutch East Indies* provides the primary source for Java’s digestive applications, while *Wong & Chua’s 1997 Borneo ethnobotanical survey* details the decoction and maceration methods. *Burkill’s 1935 ‘Dictionary of the Economic Products of the Malay Peninsula’* records the bark poultice practice.

To address the user’s request, a practical preparation based on traditional uses would be a mild digestive tea. Steep 1–2 fresh young leaves in 250 ml of just-boiled water for 5–10 minutes; strain and sip as needed, limiting intake to 1–2 cups daily. It is considered safe at traditional doses, but consumption during pregnancy is not recommended due to insufficient safety data.

Phytochemical investigations reveal flavonoid glycosides, including rutin and quercetin, alongside phenolic acids and small quantities of alkaloids (Su & May, 2004). These compounds plausibly explain the reported digestive and antidiarrheal activities due to their known spasmolytic and anti-inflammatory properties.

While modern phytochemical research is ongoing (Su & May, 2004), commercial applications remain limited, reflecting its niche status in Indonesian herbal markets and ongoing traditional use in rural Southeast Asia.
