Ethnobotanical uses of Hypericum revolutum (Vahl) are documented as infusions and washes in East African highland traditions. Among communities of the Simien Mountains in northern Ethiopia, leaflets have been collected to prepare teas and decoctions taken for stomach complaints and as general tonic drinks; post‑partum mothers drink infusion of fresh or dried leaves for uterine cleansing, according to Giday and Asfaw, 2001. In the Rwenzori highlands of southwestern Uganda, traditional healers prepare infusion of leaves for dyspepsia and fever; inflorescences and leaves are boiled in water to make a wash used to bathe wounds and sores, reported by Tugume et al., 2016. In eastern Uganda and southeastern Kenya, herbalists record preparation of leaf infusions to settle indigestion and to support gastric recovery after heavy meals; macerations of leaf or stem are rubbed over joints for aches, described by Muthee et al., 2011.

One practical recipe is a mild leaf tea: steep 2–4 g of dried or 4–6 g of fresh leaves in 200 ml of hot water for 7–10 minutes; take 1–2 cups daily after meals for stomach comfort. For external use, simmer 10 g of dried leaf in 250 ml of water for 10 minutes, cool, and apply as a wash or compress to wounds or inflamed skin. As with other Hypericum species, photosensitization can occur; avoid skin exposure to strong sunlight while using preparations, and do not use in pregnancy or lactation due to insufficient safety data.

Well‑established constituents reported for Hypericum revolutum include hyperforin and the naphthodianthrones hypericin and pseudohypericin, together with flavonoids such as quercetin and kaempferol derivatives, which plausibly account for reported antimicrobial, anti‑inflammatory, and astringent activity.

Hypericum revolutum remains part of highland herbal practice, and recent in‑vitro studies confirm antibacterial activity of leaf extracts, suggesting relevance to wound care; while not cultivated for pharmaceutical supply, local markets and herbalists in Ethiopia and Uganda continue to offer dried leaf and flowering tops for traditional uses.
