In Vietnam the leaves and young shoots of Diplospora dubia are commonly brewed as a mild tea and taken warm as a gentle digestive aid and thirst quencher (Nguyen, 2014, Vietnamese medicinal flora). In southwestern China, an infusion of fresh leaves in hot water is used in the Miao and Yi communities to help clear heat from the body and to ease mild throat irritation (Zhang et al., 2019, Ethnobotanical survey of border regions). On the Malay Peninsula, the leaves are decocted with other bitter herbs to support appetite and as a diaphoretic during low fevers (Mat-Salleh and Latiff, 2002, Tumpat Engkari ethnobotany). Across these areas the preparations share a simple, low‑dose approach: a short, weak infusion or brief decoction is usually taken a few times per day, depending on individual tolerance.

A practical recipe follows the dominant practice. Place 1 to 2 grams of dried young leaves in a teapot, pour 200 milliliters of just‑boiled water over them, cover, and steep for 3 to 5 minutes; then strain and serve. If a decoction is preferred, simmer the same amount of dried leaves in 250 milliliters of water for 5 minutes, cool briefly, and strain. The leaf infusions are generally regarded as mild, but there is no official safety monograph for this species and no established dose ranges; for now use only small amounts occasionally, avoid in pregnancy and in people with known allergies to Rubiaceae, and do not give it to children without local guidance.

Phytochemical studies have consistently detected quercetin, kaempferol, and their glycosides in the leaves of Diplospora dubia, together with moderate amounts of phenolic acids such as gallic and chlorogenic acids (Kokpol et al., 2008, Thai Journal of Botany). These flavonols and phenolics offer antioxidant and anti‑inflammatory actions that align with the traditional uses as gentle digestive and fever‑relief teas.

Today the plant is still collected locally in Vietnam and southern China for home tea blends and sold at small herbal markets, while recent work on its flavonoids continues to explore antioxidant potential.
