The tree has a wide range of medicinal uses and is used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine.

Pterocarpus marsupium, commonly known as Malabar kino, Indian kino, Vijayasar, or Venkai, is a deciduous tree native to India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. It can grow up to 31 meters tall and is used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine for its wide range of medicinal uses. It is found in parts of the Western Ghats in the Karnataka-Kerala region and in the forests of Central India.
