Crossosoma bigelovii, also known as ragged rockflower, is a unique flowering plant that belongs to the Crossosomataceae family. It is found in the Mojave, Chihuahuan, and Sonoran Deserts in North America, specifically in Arizona, California, Nevada, Baja California, Chihuahua, and Sonora. This shrub can grow up to 1-2 meters tall and has thorn-tipped branches with small, gray-green leaves. Its single flower has 5 white to purple-tinged petals and is commonly used as an ornamental plant in habitat gardens and natural landscaping. However, it is difficult to grow and requires well-drained soil and minimal watering. Ragged rockflower is also a popular choice for desert butterfly gardens.
