Lappula squarrosa is a common and widespread species of flowering plant in the borage family, found in Europe and Asia and introduced to North America and Africa. It is known by various names, including European stickseed, bur forget-me-not, bluebur, and bristly sheepbur. This annual herb has an erect stem with many branches, growing up to a meter tall. Its leaves are lined with whitish hairs and emit an unpleasant scent. The flowers are small and light blue, with occasional white ones, and are arranged in a leafy raceme. The fruit is a cluster of four nutlets covered in hooked prickles, which aid in seed dispersal by attaching to animals and clothing or being carried by wind. This plant is considered a noxious weed in many areas where it is naturalized, and it can thrive in a variety of habitats, including agricultural fields, roadsides, and overgrazed pastures.
