Torreya grandis, also known as Chinese nutmeg yew, is a species of conifer that originated in the Jurassic period and is considered a "living fossil". It is a large tree that can reach heights of up to 39 meters and is found in eastern and south-eastern China. The tree has multiple uses, including its edible seeds and medicinal properties in traditional Chinese medicine. Modern research has also shown its potential in treating cancer and regulating blood lipids. The wood of T. grandis is used in construction and furniture making, and it is also used as an ornamental tree in Europe and North America. The tree has a long history in Chinese culture, with mentions in ancient texts and being cultivated for over 1,500 years. In recent years, T. grandis has become a new industry, with advancements in research and technology leading to its increased cultivation.
