Libocedrus plumosa, also known as kawaka, is a coniferous tree native to New Zealand. It can be found in temperate rainforests on the North Island and parts of the South Island. This tree can grow up to 30-35 meters tall and has a distinctive loose, fibrous bark. Its foliage is arranged in flattened sprays and its seed cones are cylindrical with four scales and a prominent bract. The kawaka is considered a near threatened species due to habitat loss. It has also been planted as an ornamental tree in parts of the British Isles.
