Potentilla erecta, also known as the common tormentil, septfoil, or erect cinquefoil, is a herbaceous perennial plant in the rose family. It is found predominantly in Europe and western Asia, growing in a variety of habitats such as mountains, heaths, and meadows. The plant produces yellow flowers from May to August/September, with four petals and 20-25 stamens. It is commonly used in herbal medicine as an astringent due to its high tannin content. The roots are also used in traditional liqueurs and as a red dye for leather. Potentilla erecta is found wild throughout Europe and is also found in North America as an introduced species.
