Crataegus orientalis, also known as oriental hawthorn, is a species of hawthorn that is native to the Mediterranean region, Turkey, Caucasia, Crimea, and western Iran. It is highly variable and has been divided into four subspecies by Knud Ib Christensen in his monograph. The fruits of this species are orange or various shades of red and have culinary uses, such as being eaten raw or used to make a type of sweet bread in Caucasia. The flowers of the C. orientalis subsp. orientalis are also used in culinary preparations.
