The species is a small tree or shrub, typically growing to a height of 1-3 meters. Its leaves are alternate, oblong-lanceolate, and measure up to 8 cm long. Its flowers are yellowish-green and its fruits are drupes, which are dark brown and measure up to 1 cm in diameter. Xylopia emarginata is used in traditional medicine for its anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antiseptic properties. It is also used as a flavoring agent in food and beverages.

Xylopia emarginata is a species of plant in the Annonaceae family native to Cerrado vegetation in Colombia, Venezuela, Bolivia, and Northern Brazil. It is a small tree or shrub, typically growing to a height of 1-3 meters, with alternate, oblong-lanceolate leaves measuring up to 8 cm long. Its flowers are yellowish-green and its fruits are dark brown drupes measuring up to 1 cm in diameter.
