Littorella uniflora, also known as American shoreweed, is an aquatic flowering plant found in the Azores, Morocco, Europe (excluding the dry southeast), Iceland, and the Faroes. It thrives in nutrient-poor freshwater habitats and uses a combination of crassulacean acid metabolism (CAM) and C3 carbon fixation for photosynthesis when submerged. However, if the water level drops and exposes its roots, it stops using CAM.
