Stachys palustris, also known as marsh woundwort, is a perennial herb that can grow up to 80 centimeters tall. It is native to parts of Eurasia but has been introduced to North America. Its name comes from the Latin word for "of the marsh" due to its common habitat. This plant has square stems and opposite pairs of leaves with purplish-red flowers arranged in terminal spikes. It is mostly visited by bumblebees and its fruit is a dry four-chambered schizocarp. Marsh woundwort is commonly found near lakes, in marshes, and in damp meadows. It is also known for its medicinal properties and is used to promote wound healing. The plant spreads through both seeds and vegetative means, making it difficult to control in arable land.
