The heartwood of Koompassia malaccensis is used for heavy construction, marine structures, flooring, sleepers, and furniture. The wood is hard and durable, with high density and favorable mechanical properties, making it suitable for load-bearing applications; in some contexts it is grouped among timbers known for weathering and resistance, although performance varies with exposure and service conditions. The tree’s dimensions also provide boards suitable for furniture and joinery, with properties typical of dense tropical hardwoods that hold fasteners well and respond acceptably to machining.

Koompassia malaccensis is recognized as an important nectar source for Apis dorsata (the giant honey bee) in lowland and hill forests of Borneo and Peninsular Malaysia; honey produced in these areas is commonly attributed to tapang/Tualang-associated sources. The flower nectar provides significant forage for Apis dorsata colonies, supporting commercial and non-commercial honey harvesting as a forest-based product.
