.
Vaccinium arboreum, commonly known as sparkleberry or farkleberry, is a species of Vaccinium native to the southeastern and south-central United States. It is a shrub or small tree that grows up to 3-5 m tall, with oval-elliptic leaves that are 3-7 cm long and 2-4 cm broad. The flowers are white, bell-shaped, and 3-4 mm in diameter, and the fruit is a round dry berry about 6 mm in diameter, green at first and black when ripe. Sparkleberry grows on a variety of sites, from sand dunes to wet bottomlands, and is eaten by various wildlife. It has been investigated as a potential rootstock for expanding the range of blueberry cultivation to less acidic soils.
