with ripe black berries
Euclea crispa, also known as the blue guarri, is a plant species found in the Afrotropical region. It can grow as a dense shrub or a tree and is commonly found in the interior regions of southern Africa and northward to the tropics. The plant is easily recognizable by its bluish foliage and branching structure. It is native to central South Africa, Lesotho, Eswatini, and other parts of tropical Africa. The plant is often found in open or thick bush areas, along stream banks, and in rocky places. It produces fragrant flowers in the summer and small, edible berries that turn from green to black when ripe. The bark of the plant is used for various purposes, including making dyes and medicinal infusions. The plant also serves as a food source for birds and mammals. There are two subspecies of Euclea crispa, with variations in leaf shape and distribution.
