Fallopia convolvulus, also known as black-bindweed or wild buckwheat, is a fast-growing annual flowering plant found in Europe, Asia, and northern Africa. It has several synonyms and old folk names, including bear-bind, devil's tether, and climbing buckwheat. This herbaceous vine can grow up to 1-1.5 meters long and has triangular leaves with pointed basal lobes. Its small greenish-pink to greenish white flowers grow in clusters and produce small triangular achenes with one seed each. While it may resemble bindweeds, it has distinct features such as ocrea and smaller flowers. Black-bindweed is commonly found in disturbed or cultivated land and can grow in a variety of soil types. Its seeds were used as a food crop in the past, but it is now considered a weed due to its invasive nature. It can cause damage to other plants and machinery used for harvesting, and is also considered an invasive species in North America.
