Santolina rosmarinifolia, also known as holy flax, is a flowering plant in the daisy family native to southwestern Europe. It is a compact evergreen shrub with narrow, aromatic green leaves and yellow flowerheads that bloom in the summer. Its name comes from the Latin word for rosemary, due to its similar leaves. This plant is commonly used as groundcover or edging in sunny, well-drained areas, but does not do well in wet conditions and may not live for very long. Two cultivars, 'Lemon Fizz' and 'Primrose Gem', have received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. The leaves of S. rosmarinifolia can also be used in cooking and cocktails to add a flavor similar to olives, and it is sometimes referred to as olive herb or Wadi tops.
