Madia sativa, also known as coast tarweed or Chilean tarweed, is a flowering plant found in western parts of North and South America. It grows in various habitats, including disturbed areas, and is most commonly found in coastal grasslands. This annual herb can range in size from 20 centimeters to over two meters tall and has a strong scent due to its dense sticky resin glands. Its leaves are linear or lance-shaped and can reach up to 18 centimeters in length. The plant produces clusters of flower heads with yellowish ray florets and dark anthers. Its fruit is a flat, hairless achene and has been cultivated for its seed oil.
