The plant is commonly known as the splitleaf brickellbush and is found in northeastern Mexico and the southwestern United States. It belongs to the Asteraceae family and can grow up to 120 cm tall. The flower heads are small and have yellow-green disc florets, but no ray florets. This species is native to Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Durango, San Luis Potosí, Tamaulipas, Zacatecas in Mexico and southern New Mexico and western Texas in the United States.
