Operculina turpethum, also known as turpeth, fue vao, and St. Thomas lidpod, is a perennial plant in the morning glory family. It is native to India and can grow up to 4 to 5 meters in length. The leaves are variable in shape and the flowers are large and solitary. Despite its common name, it is not a purgative but rather a mild laxative. It is commonly found in the North Circars and Deccan region of India. The fruit is a capsule with noticeable enlarged sepals and thickened pedicles.
