Astilbe thunbergii is a flowering plant native to Japan and is part of the Astilbe genus. Its hybrid cultivar 'Straussenfeder' has been recognized by the Royal Horticultural Society with the Award of Garden Merit. There are currently two accepted varieties of this plant: Astilbe thunbergii var. thunbergii and Astilbe thunbergii var. kiusiana.
